Established in 1884 as a mission for underprivileged children, Repton Boxing Club has become regarded as one of the most successful amateur gyms in the UK. Consistently producing local, national, international, and Olympic level boxers. The Club’s Motto “Non Viscara… Non Gloria” (No Guts… No Glory) is exemplified in all of its fights. The standard of boxing is of international standard, competitive, and is definitely not a place for the faint hearted.
The club grew out of the Repton Boys Club, which was established in 1884 by Repton Public Schools as a way of giving support and encouragement to the young men in one of the country’s poorest communities. The club is affiliated with the A.B.A. and is a gym for serious, competitive amateur boxing. According to its website, it is “not to be confused with the type of boxing classes provided by leisure centers.” The gym oozes energy and character and is has been the birthplace of over 500 National champions.
Repton’s original senior coach Tony Burns has been at the club for over 45 years, has been to 10 Olympic games with Repton Boxers and has been awarded an MBE by the Queen for his services to Amateur Boxing. As from September 2014, Tony has retired from this position and handed the responsibility of Head Coach to Gary McCarthy. The talented coaching staff at Repton has over 200 years of valuable experience between them to pass on to Club Members who have what it takes to become Champions.
